tech Little photo of MarsYou can say a lot about NASA, but one thing they certainly are is eclectic. Space.com features the playlist of de Spirit and Opportunity mars rovers. Each of these songs is played at the start of a martian day (which is called a sol).

Some highlights fom Spirit:

  • Sol 2: Good Morning, Good Morning, by the Beatles.
  • Sol 8: Soak Up the Sun, by Cheryl Crow. (Laid-back sol.)
  • Sol 12: Born to be Wild, by Steppenwolf; Rawhide, by Riders in the Sky; Who Let The Dogs Out?, by the Baha Men. (Egress.)
  • Sol 17: We Will Rock You, by Queen. (First arm activities and observations on a rock.)
  • Sol 28: On the Road Again, by Willie Nelson. (”Can’t wait to get back on …”, back to normal use of the flash file system, itching to get going.)
  • Sol 37: Proud Mary, performed by Tina Turner. (”And we’re rolling, rolling, rolling on the river …”, first long drive, ended up being more than 20 meters.)
  • Sol 45: Touch Me in the Morning, by Diana Ross. (Touch and go sol.)
  • Sol 50: Samba De Marte, by Beth Carvalho. (Brazilian song written by same artist inspired by use of previous song on MPF, this one is a “Mars Samba”, also for Carnival weekend. Starts off “Hello NASA!”.)

Interesting tidbit: Fishy E-mail

Telewest Broadband announced that they have developed a system that allows people to send odoured e-mails, with a special purpose little device.. I wonder when we’ll get the first stink-bombs and odour-spam!

Isn’t it great how well we use our precious technology?

(NL) Arme Belg

Heden is een nieuwsbericht ontvangen vanaf slagroom.wafel.net met betrekking tot de nogal schokkende handelingen van een Belgische delinquent

Wafel wil zich graag distantieren van de behandeling van deze crimineel, maar verbiedt natuurlijk niemand te gaan kijken ;-), lees verder voor een exclusief interview met de hoofdredacteur…

Een reconstructie…
Op een druilerige woensdag die overigens wel begon met een aardige regenboog, waren er een paar arme stagaires aan het kijken op de site van slagroom toen zij tot een schokkende ontdekking kwamen! Er is gespammed! Het crisis response team werd direct bijeengeroepen en het calamiteitenplan in werking gesteld.. de dader werd opgespoord en op het matje geroepen.. VICTORY!

Wij spraken als eerste met de hoofdredacteur:

wafel.net: Goeiedag meneer slagroom, ik ben van de redactie van wafel.net, kunt u beschrijven wat uw reactie was toen u vanochtend spam op uw site ontdekte?
slagroom: haha.. K*T [red: gecensureerd ivm de ontwikkelingen op het borstfront in Amerika]
wafel.net: ok duidelijk, bent u verheugd met de wijze waarop de zaak is afgewikkeld..
slagroom: ja zeker. U niet dan als hoster?
wafel.net:Uitermate.. Bent u van plan deze aanpak vaker toe te passen, het is natuurlijk een barbaarse methode om mensen aan de virtuele schandpaal te nagelen?
slagroom: gelukkig maar
wafel.net bedankt voor uw reactie.
slagroom: np [red: “geen probleem”]

Call for action: USA: ”Double jeopardy” for some Guantánamo detainees

Amnesty International reports on their website:
“Held in isolating conditions, the detainees held in Guantánamo Bay have not been allowed to see lawyers or relatives, or to have access to any court. Now, even if eventually released with no charge, some may face further injustice: indefinite untried detention, torture or execution in their home country.”

This unfair detention has been going on for years now.. It must be stopped! Check the example letter on the Amnesty site.
